Becomes 6th East Valley Mayor to Endorse Salmon for Congress
EAST VALLEY - Matt Salmon, former Congressman and Republican nominee for Arizona's 5th congressional district, today announced the endorsement of Gilbert Mayor John Lewis. Mayor Lewis is the 6th East Valley Mayor to endorse Salmon in his bid to return to Congress, joining Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, Chandler Mayor Jay Tibshraeny, Queen Creek Mayor Gail Barney, Apache Junction Mayor John Insalaco and former Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman.
Mayor Lewis stated, "I am excited to join so many other outstanding East Valley Mayors in endorsing Matt Salmon for Congress. Matt understands the important relationship between federal and municipal leaders and has demonstrated his commitment to working with local leaders to improve all East Valley communities. We need his leadership and experience in Congress and I encourage my fellow Gilbert constituents to join me in voting for Matt Salmon."

About Mayor John Lewis
Mayor John Lewis was first elected Mayor in May, 2009 and re-elected on August 28, 2012. In addition to his mayoral duties, Mayor Lewis serves on the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council, the MAG Economic Development Committee, the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Board, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council Board, the East Valley Partnership Board and the League of Arizona Cities and Towns Executive Committee.
Mayor Lewis earned an MBA from the University of Houston and a Bachelor of Science (Finance) from Brigham Young University. He has been married to LaCinda for 32 years and together they have nine children and five grandchildren. The Lewis Family has lived in Gilbert for 27 years.
About Matt Salmon
Matt Salmon was first elected to the United States Congress in 1994 and served until 2000, honoring his term limit pledge. Salmon was rated in the top five among all 535 members of the House and Senate by Citizen's Against Government Waste for all six years he was in office. He is a lifetime member of the NRA with an A+ rating and also earned a 100% rating by the National Right to Life. He was also the proud recipient of the American Cancer Society's "Top National Elected Official"award.
